Thought Weiner's appearance on "The Daily Show" came off pretty well. Enjoyed the riffs over their previous connection. (but no mention of this interview or revisit of subject critique.)

Weiner's analysis of media and cynicism was too harsh in your interview here. It seems out of perspective within a broader context of political realities.

So there's a certain quality of lazy liberalism within the comedy/cynical camp, perhaps as a politician, he's posturing to seem above this kind of free form discourse. (if he TiVo's the show, he must find some value in the content.)

My advice, why not use the force of this politically sympathetic audience for general support and tap them with the more serious call to arms along the way when the openings present.

This whole thing makes me so conflicted. I love AW, and if he's not the only politician I really feel like I can get behind, he's certainly in very limited company. I get what he's saying, and I sympathize with what he's saying, but he's picking the wrong target. The cynicism should arise when one realizes *how good* Jon Stewart is at delivering ... See Morethe news and conducting interviews, not in the fact that he's a comedian who attracts those who happen to have succumbed to a certain degree of cynicism. (AW needs to see Jon's interview with Doug Feith, for instance, to see what supposed "journalists" are supposed to be doing, which is to say, playing hardball without yelling and calling someone names...showing respect, but not allowing the perpetuation of misinformation).

Rather, he needs to direct his ire where it belongs: at the corporate takeover of the free press, which yields the sort of environment that eventually gives us Jon Stewart. I'm glad we have "The Daily Show", and in our current environment, it's an important part of the miserable equation, but I do sympathize with Anthony Weiner when I say I wish we didn't have to have it.
